Make sure you keep your pedal within easy reach of your feet. It isn’t very helpful if you have to extend your leg as you won’t have anywhere near as much control as you need.
The pedal should face you with the thinnest part of the wedge towards you.
Just use the front of your foot to press the pedal down. Leave your heel on the floor. If you hover your whole foot above the pedal all the time, and use your whole foot to press it down, it will be impossible to go anything but super fast.
It is important to sew consistently speed-wise and not stop and start all the time. This will definitely get easier with practice. Sewing too fast means you have very little control, you will end going past where you needed to stop/ turn, you will not have time to pull out pins or make sure you are not accidentally sewing pleats in to your work, and you can easily end up breaking needles if you are sewing over more than a few layers of fabric. The more layers or the thcker the fabric, the slower you need to. If you are attempting 6 layers of denim it is best to turn the handwheel by hand to make sure you don’t burn out the motor or break a needle.
When you have finished sewing completely and are putting your pedal away, make sure you don’t wind the lead tightly around your pedal, and never oull at the cord, or worse, pull the plug out of the socket by oulling t the lead. Once the wiring inside your pedal is damaged you will have to replace the pedal!
